Police treatment
The Helsinki Committee monitors police actions and provides legal assistance in individual cases of overstepping of police powers and protection of victims of police brutality. The Committee will continue to advocate for professionalization of the security services, enhanced oversight of their work and improving their sensibility in dealing with vulnerable groups of citizens.
Closed institutions and torture, inhuman and degrading treatment and punishment
The Helsinki Committee monitors the situation in closed institutions and other places in which the freedom of movement is restricted or revoked, where citizens are placed in the most vulnerable position, with a risk of violations of their rights guaranteed with national and international human rights standards. The Committee shall act upon all complaints related to the conditions, treatment, health protection, re-socialization and the exercise of all other rights in institutions of a closed type, in accordance with international standards and principles.
