Skopje Pride 2025: Political Protest and Future Directions for the LGBTI Movement

Skopje Pride 2025 marked a turning point in the positioning of the Pride movement in North Macedonia. Unlike previous editions, which balanced visibility with celebration, this year’s Pride was deliberately framed as a protest against systemic oppression, institutional neglect, and shrinking civic space.

Despite financial crises and diplomatic withdrawals, the event was successfully realized, demonstrating
resilience, solidarity, and the need for sustainable, independent support mechanisms for the LGBTIQ+
movement.
