Meeting held with representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the State Labour Inspectorate

Members of the Helsinki Committee held a working meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy – Department for Violations of Labour Relations and Health and Safety on the Workplace and of the State Labour Inspectorate on 10/11/2017. Most urgent breaches of labour rights of textile and leather workers documented by the Helsinki Committee were discussed at the meeting, including failure to pay salaries and contributions to salaries, and extra payments to salaries by employers, paying salaries in cash, illegally ending employment, unregulated employment, overtime beyond the legally allowed limit, mobbing by employers, working in inappropriate health and sanitary conditions, lack of proper health and safety measures at the workplace, injuries at the workplace, breach of the right to annual leave and working on state holidays.
Solutions were proposed at the meeting to overcome the stated cases, whereby the representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the State Labour Inspectorate expressed their commitment and desire for future cooperation with the Helsinki Committee with regards to improving the labour rights of textile and leather workers.
