Criminal offences motivated by intolerance or prejudice against a particular group in the society are termed “hate crimes”. To qualify as such, two requirements must be met: the offence must be provided for in the criminal law, and its commission must be motivated by prejudice.
The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights has taken on the task of registering and mapping these hate crimes. This monthly report provides an overview of the incidents registered in March, 2024.
